Welcome to Professional Farrier Services in Nova Scotia
Horses have been a part of Paul's life for a long time. He was been riding since the age of 14, showed extensively as a teenager, and participated in 4H. Always committed to improvement, he participated in clinics and took every opportunity to advance his skills. Paul's horse related activities continued into adulthood serving as a 4H leader and earning a level I Western coaching certificate. Looking for a trade that would allow him to continue his involvement with horses, Paul decided to become a farrier.
In 1990, he graduated from the Eastern School of Farriery in Virginia where he trained under Danny Ward whose credentials and accomplishments are impressive. Mr. Ward has won American Farrier's Association awards including Outstanding Clinician Award and the Educator Award, was Shoe Association's Farrier of the Year, and is a member of the International Hall of Fame. He has been a four time member of the International North American Farriers Team. Ward has also judged the Calgary World Championship, the Stoneleigh' England International, the Heavy Horse Competition in Scotland, and the American Farrier's Association convention. Danny Ward is a popular clinician, guest lecturer, consultant, and contributor to trade journals.
Paul then apprenticed with Mr. Vince Whalen, a 30 year veteran ofthe trade and one of only two farriers in Canada to be inducted into the Farriers' International Hall of Fame in Kentucky.
As well as the 20 years of experience that Paul brings to his craft, he is committed to remaining current with the latest research on equine hoof care and new techniques. Paul's guiding principle is to do his best to serve the individual needs of his equine clients whether they are corrective shoeing, barefoot trimming, hot shoeing, or those associated with a variety of disciplines. To this end, he attends professional clinics and is a member of the Nova Scotia Farrier Association. Paul regularly consults with local veterinarians to best serve his clients' needs. He has also arranged information sessions for his clients, organizes and participates in riding clinics, and is a guest speaker to audiences such as 4H, Pony Club, and other equine groups.
Paul's practice includes miniature horses, ponies, and horses that participate in many disciplines including hunting, jumping, reining, penning, driving, and pleasure riding. He travels throughout South West Nova Scotia, the South Shore, and the Eastern Shore. Paul also carries a variety of equine supplements that he has personally found to be effective. Rates are tailored to each horse depending on individual requirements and distance travelled. Paul would be happy to provide references upon request.
